Liebherr-Aerospace Leads SONRISA Project for Digitized Quality Assurance in Aerospace Additive Manufacturing
The SONRISA project aims to develop a standardized quality assurance framework for laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M) in aerospace. Led by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH in collaboration with Boeing, MTU Aero Engines, Materialise, and the German Federal Institute for Materials Research, the project focuses on in-situ monitoring, data processing, and certification efficiency. It also explores lightweight structures and sustainable manufacturing processes to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance additive manufacturing acceptance.

The SONRISA project, led by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH, aims to establish a digitized quality assurance framework for the laser powder bed fusion process in aerospace. Collaborators include Boeing Deutschland GmbH, MTU Aero Engines AG, Materialise Deutschland GmbH, and the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, with support from Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology GmbH.
The project focuses on in-situ monitoring, statistical process control, and data processing, aiming to enhance certification processes and reduce inspection efforts. Additionally, it investigates lightweight structures and develops concepts for energy-efficient manufacturing. The outcomes aim to boost the acceptance of additively manufactured components in the aerospace sector.
