Liebherr, MAN, and Daimler Truck Showcase Hydrogen-Powered Construction Machinery in Munich
Liebherr, MAN, and Daimler Truck showcased hydrogen-powered construction machinery at a gravel plant in Munich, successfully demonstrating low-emission earthmoving operations. Supported by the Hydrogen Engine Alliance, this initiative emphasizes the need for a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure in Europe, as the vehicles offer comparable performance to diesel while significantly reducing CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions. The hydrogen-powered L 566 H wheel loader is set to be featured at Bauma 2025, with hydrogen technology already in series production for the MAN hTGX truck.

At a gravel plant in Munich, Liebherr's hydrogen-powered L 566 H wheel loader, along with MAN's hTGX truck and a development vehicle from Daimler Truck, successfully completed earthmoving tasks, demonstrating low-emission construction site operations. This initiative, supported by the Hydrogen Engine Alliance, highlights the need for a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure in Europe.
The hydrogen engines provide comparable performance to diesel while offering CO2-free operation and reduced nitrogen oxide emissions. The L 566 H is set to be presented at Bauma 2025, with hydrogen already entering series production vehicles like the MAN hTGX. For hydrogen to be fully utilized in construction, Europe requires an extensive transport network and fair pricing.
