Lifezone Achieves First Production of Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium from U.S. Recycling Project
Lifezone Metals Limited announces the first production of platinum, palladium, and rhodium from U.S. automotive catalytic converters using its proprietary Hydromet Technology. This milestone aims to reduce dependence on foreign PGM sources and enhance domestic production capabilities, addressing national security and economic vulnerabilities in the precious metals sector.

Lifezone Metals Limited has successfully produced platinum, palladium, and rhodium from U.S.-sourced spent automotive catalytic converters, marking a significant advancement in domestic PGM production. Utilizing its Hydromet Technology, Lifezone aims to establish a reliable closed-loop system for refined PGMs, reducing the U.S.'s reliance on imports, which currently total about 2 million ounces annually.
The company's pilot tests achieved recoveries of up to 99% for platinum and palladium, and 95% for rhodium, demonstrating the effectiveness of their integrated hydrometallurgical processes. The planned precious metals refinery in the U.S. will leverage these findings while aiming for even higher metal purities.
Lifezone's technology presents a potential solution to the critical supply chain risks associated with PGMs, particularly rhodium. As the company progresses with engineering and feasibility studies, it is positioned to make a substantial impact on the North American PGM market and contribute to a more sustainable circular economy.
