Limerick Board Proposes New Zoning Restrictions for Data Centers
Limerick's board of supervisors approved an updated zoning ordinance for data centers, enforcing stricter regulations. The changes will not affect two existing data center proposals currently under review in the township.

The Limerick board of supervisors has voted to update its zoning ordinance for data centers to enhance public protection. The changes include a maximum height reduction from 129 feet to 80 feet, a setback increase from 400 feet to 1,000 feet from residential properties, and the requirement for annual noise studies.
New provisions mandate a 'closed loop' cooling system, emergency management plans, and decommissioning requirements that ensure sites are returned to green space or adaptive reuse. These updates, inspired by regulations from Loudon County, Virginia, and Montgomery County, aim to mitigate potential impacts on local communities. The revised ordinance will undergo further review and a public hearing, likely delaying adoption until July or August.
