The Linn County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet to discuss proposed regulations for data center projects. The ordinance aims to establish rules for construction in unincorporated Linn County, covering building setbacks, noise limits, and traffic impacts.
Two data centers, a Google and a QTS facility, are currently under construction in the area. Proposed requirements include conducting water studies, signing water use agreements, and assessing long-term impacts on roads and resources.
Additionally, large data centers must sign economic development agreements with the county. The commission also proposes new zoning rules for gas-fired power plants, mandating a minimum distance of 2.25 miles from residential areas in population centers. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
