Logistic Land Investment Seeks Additional 900 Acres for AL Data Center Amid Local Opposition
Logistic Land Investment LLC plans to request the rezoning of an additional 900 acres in Bessemer, Alabama, from agricultural to light industrial for its proposed $14.5 billion Project Marvel data center. This follows a previous approval by the Bessemer City Council to rezone nearly 700 acres of agricultural land.
City attorney Aaron Killings indicated that the new zoning aims to address potential conflicts with the Northern Beltline road project. Despite the developer's claims of no environmental impact, local residents have expressed strong opposition to the project, which could include 18 large buildings and significant resource consumption. Council member Cleo King, who opposed the initial rezoning, advocates for a more cautious approach to development, citing Birmingham's consideration of a moratorium on data centers as a better model.
