Loop Chemicals Licenses Innovative Ammonia Production Technology from Sandia National Laboratories
Loop Chemicals has licensed a new ammonia production technology from Sandia National Laboratories, focusing on distributed manufacturing. This development aims to enhance U.S. fertilizer supply chains and reduce dependency on imports.
Loop Chemicals has secured a license for thermochemical looping ammonia technology from Sandia National Laboratories, targeting commercialization for distributed ammonia production. This technology, developed in collaboration with Arizona State University, promises lower capital intensity compared to traditional methods.
Initially, Loop Chemicals will concentrate on fertilizer markets to localize production and decrease supply-chain vulnerabilities, with plans to explore ammonia as an alternative fuel as the project matures. Loop Chemicals, which originated from the Massachusetts Climatetech Studio, is utilizing grant funding to build a prototype reactor, collaborating closely with Sandia and ASU.
Continued partnership with Sandia will aid in technology advancement and validation. This development has implications for enhancing domestic agricultural production and energy security.
