Los Alamos National Laboratory Unveils New Supercomputers Mission and Vision
Los Alamos National Laboratory has announced its new supercomputers, Mission and Vision, powered by HPE and NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform. This initiative aims to enhance HPC capabilities and support agentic AI workloads, significantly improving performance metrics for scientific research.

Los Alamos National Laboratory plans to deploy the supercomputers Mission and Vision, designed to exceed the performance of the existing Crossroads system by over three times per CPU. Each system will utilize NVIDIA Vera CPUs and Rubin GPUs, achieving more than four times the memory per core and reduced power consumption compared to current architectures.
The first Vera CPU server is set for installation in a test bed this summer, with full deployment scheduled for 2027 and 2028. These advancements in CPU technology are crucial for accelerating AI and HPC workloads, addressing urgent scientific challenges efficiently. The collaboration with HPE and NVIDIA emphasizes a focus on high-memory bandwidth and irregular applications, which are vital for the Laboratory's objectives.
