Lowndes County Residents Oppose Proposed 720-Acre AI Data Center
Local opposition is mounting against a 720-acre AI data center in Lowndes County, Georgia, amid concerns over environmental impact and infrastructure. The project, linked to DC BLOX, has prompted calls for a moratorium as residents seek more information.

A proposed AI data center covering 720 acres near Foxborough in Lowndes County has incited significant community opposition. Residents are particularly concerned about impacts on water quality and infrastructure, prompting the Lowndes Citizens Against Data Centers (LCAD) to request a moratorium on the project.
The development, associated with DC BLOX and businessman Pope Langdale III, has not received any permits as county leaders continue to assess similar projects' outcomes elsewhere. Economic benefits cited by the data center industry include $162.7 billion in tax revenue in 2023, with potential job creation in construction and ongoing trades. However, community members urge thorough research into the potential negative impacts on land and local resources.
