Lundy Ditch Piping Project Transforms Irrigation in Central Oregon
The Lundy Ditch Piping Project in Central Oregon has converted 4,000 feet of unlined ditch into a closed pipeline, enhancing water conservation and reliability for agricultural stakeholders. This modernization addresses significant water loss and improves operational transparency, paving the way for future irrigation enhancements.

The Lundy Ditch Piping Project has replaced a nearly 100-year-old irrigation system with a closed-conduit pipeline, benefiting water right holders and adjacent landowners. The project, spanning 4,000 feet, required coordination among the Deschutes River Conservancy, the Deschutes Soil and Water Conservation District, and Morrison-Maierle, emphasizing collaborative solutions.
Previously, the open ditch suffered from over 40% water loss due to seepage and evaporation. The new system reduces maintenance needs and disputes through metering at points of diversion, ensuring clearer accountability. This initiative also facilitates potential future connections to the Arnold Irrigation District Main Canal, promoting long-term irrigation improvements.
