Water Purification Systems Introduced in 25 Villages of Ayeyawady Region
The Rural Development Department has introduced water purification systems across 25 villages in the Ayeyawady Region, following the success of a pilot project last fiscal year. The initiative aims to address water shortages exacerbated by seasonal evaporation and increased population pressure from migrant fishermen.

In February 2020, the Rural Development Department initiated a project to install water purification systems in 25 villages of the Ayeyawady Region, utilizing water from local rivers and creeks. This decision follows the successful implementation of a pilot project in Chaungwa Village during the 2018-2019 mini-budget period, which eliminated water shortages in that area.
Distribution of purified water is anticipated to commence in 22 villages by the end of April 2020. The project seeks to mitigate seasonal water scarcity, particularly during intense summer heat when evaporation rates rise significantly.
