Luxcara Acquires 520 MW Battery Storage Project in Waltrop, Germany
Luxcara has acquired a 520 MW battery energy storage system project in Waltrop, Germany, one of the largest in the country. The facility will be constructed on a repurposed industrial site and is set to operate under a tolling agreement. The project is part of the Waltrop Battery Park, which will have a total capacity of 900 MW. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with collaborations involving BKW AG and Trianel GmbH.

Luxcara has acquired a 520 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Waltrop, Germany, which will be built on a site previously intended for a coal-fired power plant. This project is among the largest in Germany and has secured grid capacity, set to operate under a tolling agreement.
The BESS will contribute to the Waltrop Battery Park, totaling 900 MW capacity. Construction is slated to start in 2026. The project aims to enhance grid resilience and facilitate renewable energy integration. Luxcara is partnering with BKW AG and Trianel GmbH, with the project under review by the Federal Cartel Office.
