Luxcara has acquired a 520 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Waltrop, Germany, which will be built on a site previously intended for a coal-fired power plant. This project is among the largest in Germany and has secured grid capacity, set to operate under a tolling agreement.

The BESS will contribute to the Waltrop Battery Park, totaling 900 MW capacity. Construction is slated to start in 2026. The project aims to enhance grid resilience and facilitate renewable energy integration. Luxcara is partnering with BKW AG and Trianel GmbH, with the project under review by the Federal Cartel Office.
