Lwandle Electricity Infrastructure Upgrades Enhance Reliability and Capacity
The City of Cape Town has invested R2.3 million in upgrades to the electricity infrastructure in Lwandle, Strand. This initiative is part of a broader R4 billion capital investment program aimed at enhancing the electricity distribution network across the city.

The City of Cape Town's Energy Directorate has completed significant upgrades in Lwandle, Strand, including the installation of mini-substations and kiosks. The R2.3 million investment involved replacing 160kVA transformers with 500kVA ground-mounted mini-substations, improving local power capacity and reliability.
The upgrades utilize a ring-feed design to provide alternative supply paths during outages. A total of R4 billion is allocated for the city's electricity network enhancements. Challenges such as illegal connections and vandalism persist, prompting the implementation of anti-theft measures and the use of theft-resistant cables. Community cooperation is encouraged to protect electrical infrastructure.
