Lyon Township Residents Challenge 1.8 Million Sq Ft Data Center Plans
Approximately 125 residents attended a Lyon Township Planning Commission meeting to express concerns about a 1.8-million-square-foot data center planned between South Hill and Milford Roads. The project, named Project Flex, received conditional approval on Sept. 8, and final approval depends on an independent review of a sound study and an energy audit.
The center, proposed by Verrus under Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners, includes six buildings on 172 acres and will need a new DTE Energy electrical substation. Residents raised issues regarding noise, water quality, air pollution, and energy reliability, demanding more public notification and a potential moratorium on developments.
The noise study reported operational levels below acceptable thresholds but did not address noise from diesel generators, which can be significantly louder. Concerns about environmental impacts were emphasized by local residents.
