MACH2 Hydrogen Hub Receives $18.8 Million for Planning and Design in Mid-Atlantic States

HYDROGEN

The Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2) aims to produce 100,000 tons of hydrogen annually across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. It has received an $18.8 million Phase 1 award from the U.S.

Department of Energy for planning, design, and community outreach, with potential access to $750 million in federal cost share. The hub, consisting of 19 partners, will utilize renewables-driven electrolysis and existing pipelines to deliver near-zero carbon hydrogen for industrial applications.

Approximately 97% of hydrogen will be generated from Green and Pink Hydrogen sources, with initial use of Blue Hydrogen. The project is expected to create around 20,000 jobs, including 6,000 permanent roles, while also addressing environmental justice concerns. Phase 1 planning will span 15 months, with construction anticipated to begin shortly after, aiming for operational status by the end of the decade.
