Madison Water Rates Increase Approved, Effective May 1
Madison residents will face a $4.91 monthly increase in water bills starting May 1 due to PSC approval. The rise addresses higher operational costs and aims to fund infrastructure improvements without further debt reliance.

Effective May 1, water rates in Madison will rise by an average of $4.91 per month following approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. This increase is necessary to cover rising gross plant investments and operational expenses since the last adjustment in 2023.
The additional revenue will be allocated for water main replacements, reducing the need for borrowing to maintain the city's infrastructure. It is important to note that this rate change pertains exclusively to water charges, with no adjustments made to sewer, storm water, resource recovery, or urban forestry fees. This financial strategy could stabilize the Madison Water Utility's fiscal health in the long term.
