Madras Fertilizers Plans ₹10,300 Crore Ammonia-Urea Project in Chennai
Madras Fertilizers Ltd is set to invest ₹10,300 crore in a Greenfield Ammonia-Urea Complex in Chennai, aiming to produce 1.3 million tonnes of urea annually. The project, which aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, seeks to address urea shortages in South India and follows a record production and revenue increase in fiscal 2024-25. Execution of the project hinges on the restructuring of a Government of India loan, for which a proposal has been submitted.

Madras Fertilizers Ltd plans to establish a Greenfield Ammonia-Urea Complex in Chennai with an investment of ₹10,300 crore. The plant is expected to produce 1.3 million tonnes of urea annually. The board has approved a pre-feasibility report, and applications for Centre approval have been submitted.
The project aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and aims to address urea shortages in South India. In fiscal 2024-25, MFL achieved record production levels and a revenue increase of 14% to ₹2,542 crore. The execution of the project depends on the restructuring of a Government of India loan, for which a proposal has been submitted.
