Maharashtra Government Initiates MoU for 1,100 MW Pumped Storage Projects
The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for three pumped storage projects totaling 1,100 MW capacity. This initiative aims to address the anticipated increase in power demand driven by expanding data centers in the region.

The Maharashtra government has committed to three pumped storage projects with a combined capacity of 1,100 MW, which will also generate approximately 1,100 jobs. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the need for such projects to accommodate rising power demands, particularly for renewable energy, over the next four years.
The Kumbhi off-stream closed loop projects (Parts A and B) will be located in Kolhapur/Sindhudurg, while the Kadvi off-stream project will be situated in Shahuwadi, Kolhapur district. These projects will enhance energy storage capabilities and contribute to stabilizing the national grid. The development of these facilities may mitigate risks related to energy supply fluctuations as demand increases.
