Maharashtra plans to increase its renewable energy share from 17% to 50% by 2030 through the Rs12,303 crore MAGESTIC initiative. The project includes upgrades to transmission infrastructure, construction of 40 new substations, and development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a target capacity of 16,000 MWh.
Financing will come from a World Bank loan covering 70% of costs and state power utilities contributing 30%. Additionally, the newly formed Green Maharashtra Commission aims to plant 300 crore trees by 2047, increasing forest cover to 33%. This dual initiative emphasizes sustainable energy and long-term environmental planning, crucial for managing climate change impacts.
