Major Lithium Deposit Discovered in McDermitt Caldera, US
A significant lithium reserve, potentially the largest globally, has been identified in the McDermitt caldera, spanning Nevada and Oregon. This discovery could meet rising lithium demand for decades, as global usage is projected to reach 1 million metric tons annually by 2040.

A study reveals a lithium deposit in the McDermitt caldera, estimated at 20 to 40 million metric tons, with a maximum potential of 120 million metric tons. Mining operations are anticipated to commence by 2026, with an estimated value of $1.5 trillion.
The site measures 30 kilometers by 40 kilometers and is believed to have formed through magma approximately 16 million years ago. Compared to Bolivia’s largest known deposit of about 10.2 million tons, this discovery could significantly impact global supply. Efficient refining processes will be crucial for economic viability, as highlighted by industry experts.
