The Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) in Malawi has terminated the shipping and ports concession agreement to prioritize long-term development. CEO Patrick Kabambe stated that the government is dedicated to ensuring efficient operations of critical infrastructure.

The PPPC is tasked with assessing project proposals for private sector participation and will facilitate the process for identifying a new concessionaire. The government has taken control of operations during this transition to ensure service continuity while evaluating investment options.

Kabambe emphasized the potential for Lake Malawi to become a transport hub, supported by investments in infrastructure and technology. Key projects under the PPPC include the Southern African Trade and Connectivity Project, the Mpatamanga Hydropower Project, and the Digital Malawi Acceleration Project, all aimed at enhancing trade, energy security, and digital infrastructure.
