Malaysia's PETRA and NAHRIM Enhance Water Security through Innovation and AI Under AIR2040 Agenda
The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) and the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) are advancing Malaysia's water security through the 2040 Water Sector Transformation Agenda. Initiatives include the Malaysian Flood Forensics Team (FORBiM) for flood analysis, exploration of alternative water sources, and AI-driven monitoring technologies. Key projects involve flood mitigation solutions and commercialized treated rainwater products. A National Water Hub is established to integrate research and innovation towards making Malaysia a regional water hub by 2040.

PETRA and NAHRIM are enhancing Malaysia's water security in alignment with the AIR2040 agenda. The Malaysian Flood Forensics Team (FORBiM) investigates flooding to develop effective mitigation strategies.
Innovations include the PETRAN Automatic Flood Retaining Wall and Mobile Flood Mitigation Wall. Agencies are exploring alternative water sources such as upgraded reservoirs and seawater desalination, especially for underserved areas.
The PETRAN RAINDROPS and CLOUDRAIN products commercialize treated rainwater. AI technologies enable real-time water quality monitoring. A National Water Hub is established to consolidate research and position Malaysia as a regional water hub by 2040.
