Malaysia's SIRIM to Transform into Technology Pioneer for Advanced Manufacturing
Malaysia aims to transform SIRIM from a standards referee into a leader in applied technology development for advanced manufacturing. This involves legislative reforms, increased public funding for research, fostering a culture of commercialization, focusing on national grand challenges, supporting SMEs, and ensuring strategic autonomy in leadership. By re-engineering SIRIM, Malaysia seeks to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and secure economic sovereignty.

Malaysia plans to evolve SIRIM into a leader in applied technological development for advanced manufacturing. Key steps include enacting legislative reforms for a new charter, ensuring sustained public funding for high-risk research, and adopting a public-private partnership model similar to Fraunhofer.
SIRIM will focus on commercialization and attract engineers and entrepreneurs, while forming strategic partnerships to embed global best practices. It will target specific verticals such as smart automation and AI-driven engineering, support SMEs in digitization, and pursue strategic autonomy in leadership. This transformation aims to bolster Malaysia's manufacturing sovereignty.
