Manatí Launches Community Resilience Center with Recycled Solar Panels
The municipality of Manatí inaugurated a community resilience center powered by recycled solar panels, enhancing energy access during outages. This initiative, backed by a $20,000 grant, aims to establish a model for sustainable energy solutions across Puerto Rico.

Manatí has inaugurated its first community resilience center at the José S. Alegría Cultural Center, equipped with a 15-kilowatt solar system and a 14-kilowatt-hour energy storage solution. Funded partially by a $20,000 grant from Hammond's Solar Moonshot Program, the project incorporates recycled solar panels to promote sustainability and prevent landfill waste.
The initiative, coordinated by Barrioization, was supported by La Margarita Energy Cooperative and Abeyno Coop's certified electricians. The project is one of five planned in Puerto Rico, each averaging over $57,000, and aims to create a replicable model for energy resilience. A learning boot camp will also train local electricians in renewable energy.
