The Manitoba government has introduced a $10 million fund to encourage business investment in Churchill as part of its 2026-27 budget. This initiative aims to enhance the Port of Churchill and develop an energy corridor, potentially facilitating the shipment of liquified natural gas, electricity, and hydrogen.
This funding supplements a $262.5 million commitment from both federal and provincial governments for essential infrastructure projects including port renovations and railway maintenance. The Arctic Gateway Group is collaborating with Ottawa on export studies and has formed trade agreements with European ports.
However, infrastructure improvements are necessary and may take several years to complete. The government also allocated $450,000 for CentrePort Canada funding to foster collaboration with Arctic Gateway.
