Manitoba Hydro's integrated resource plan outlines a strategy to increase electricity generation by 1,760 megawatts over the next decade, focusing on new wind farms and gas-burning turbines. The plan, published in early 2026, includes building three gas turbines in Brandon, operational by 2030, to address mid-winter power demands.

New wind farms, expected to generate 600 megawatts, will be completed by 2035 through Indigenous-led companies. Additionally, a pilot project for five-megawatt battery storage is set for completion by 2034.

The plan aims to implement energy-saving measures to reduce peak demand by 860 megawatts. Manitoba Hydro’s power-sharing agreements with North Dakota and Minnesota provide a buffer against winter shortages until 2030, when these contracts are scheduled to expire.
