Maranhão to Host Brazil's First Green Data Center Focused on AI Development
Maranhão will establish Brazil's first green data center aimed at AI development within the future Export Processing Zone (ZPE-MA). The initiative, resulting from an agreement between SEDEPE and TED IA, will operate on renewable energy sources. The data center will collaborate with universities for talent development and technological dissemination, enhancing the local digital ecosystem and contributing to national digital sovereignty and cybersecurity.

Maranhão is set to host Brazil's first green data center dedicated to artificial intelligence development. Located in the future Export Processing Zone (ZPE-MA), the project, named LUMEN, stems from a partnership between the State Secretariat for Economic Development and Strategic Programs (SEDEPE) and TED IA.
It will utilize high-performance computing powered solely by renewable energy. The data center aims to work with universities to foster talent and advance technology. The initiative is expected to have significant socioeconomic impacts and enhance digital sovereignty and cybersecurity at a national level.
