Maricá Pursues BTG Data Center Investment to Diversify Economy
Maricá aims to diversify its economy by attracting high-tech investments, initiating discussions with BTG Pactual for a potential data center. This move is part of a broader strategy to transition from oil dependence to a technology-driven economic model.
Maricá's mayor, Washington Quaquá, is in discussions with André Esteves of BTG Pactual regarding a potential data center in the municipality. This initiative aligns with Maricá's strategy to reduce its historical reliance on oil royalties, which totaled over R$ 1.068 billion in 2026, including R$ 743.3 million in royalties alone.
The establishment of a data center could enhance the region's technological infrastructure, create specialized jobs, and stimulate related services. However, success will depend on concrete factors such as energy availability and regulatory support. If successful, Maricá could serve as a model for transforming oil revenues into sustainable economic growth.
