Marine Corps Launches Ground Reconnaissance Course to Modernize Training Curriculum
The Marine Corps is implementing a new Ground Reconnaissance Course as part of a curriculum overhaul to enhance reconnaissance training. This initiative aligns with Force Design objectives and aims to improve infantry skills and operational effectiveness in complex environments.

The Marine Corps has introduced the Ground Reconnaissance Course (GRC) on April 27 at Camp Pendleton, marking a significant update to its Marine reconnaissance training curriculum. The GRC will replace the Basic Reconnaissance Course and will be integrated with the existing Amphibious Reconnaissance Course (ARC), focusing on essential skills such as land navigation, water survival, and communications.
Additionally, the traditional Marine Combat Training is being supplanted by the Infantry Rifleman Course to streamline training and enhance early exposure to performance support. Successful completion of the ARC will qualify Marines as Reconnaissance Marines (military occupational specialty 0321). This curriculum change is strategically aligned with the Marine Corps' Force Design goals for 2030.
