Maritime Innovation Center Completed in Seattle with Historic Restoration
The Maritime Innovation Center in Seattle, a $37 million project, successfully integrates historic preservation with modern sustainability practices. This facility will serve as a collaborative hub for maritime stakeholders, showcasing advancements in building technology and environmental impact reduction.

The Maritime Innovation Center was completed in February 2026, following a $37 million restoration project by the Port of Seattle in collaboration with the Miller Hull Partnership and Forma Construction. This facility, located on Salmon Bay, utilizes historic timber beams while introducing modern elements to enhance usable space.
Key improvements include a new steel bracing system, gray and black water reuse systems, and a robust concrete slab supported by thirty-nine 24-inch steel piles. The project also faced significant challenges, such as addressing rotten piers and contaminated soils. Its completion marks a significant milestone in sustainable building practices on waterfronts, potentially influencing future projects across the industry.
