Marshall has secured $4 million in state recovery funding for relocating its wastewater treatment facility, totaling $9 million toward an estimated $30 million project. The plant was submerged for nearly two days during Hurricane Helene, causing extensive damage to infrastructure, including pump stations and control panels.
Town officials emphasize the necessity of moving the plant out of the floodplain for future storm protection. While currently operational at 75% capacity, repairs are ongoing. FEMA has given preliminary approval for the relocation, and officials are in discussions regarding funding coverage.
Resilience against flooding is a priority in site selection, with a future location identified but undisclosed. The town continues to seek additional funding to close the financial gap.
