Massena Proposes Law to Allow Data Centers in Industrial Zone with Public Hearing

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The town of Massena proposed a law to permit data centers in an industrial zone, with a public hearing scheduled for Jan. 21 at 4:30 p.m. This amendment follows a request by the St. Lawrence County Planning Board regarding Petawatt Holdings' site plan for a data center substation on County Route 42.

County officials noted that the current zoning laws do not permit utilities and substations in industrial areas. They returned the project to the town with recommendations, suggesting that if the Zoning Board of Appeals validates Petawatt's request, the town should update its code to include support services as a permitted use.
