Massena Town Board Delays Action on 635 MW Data Center Proposal
The Massena Town Board will not take action on a proposed 635 MW data center at the former Alcoa East plant. Residents have raised concerns, and the Town Planning Board is in the early review stages.

The Massena Town Board has decided against taking action on a proposed 635 MW data center during its recent meeting. The proposal involves the construction of three structures totaling over 1.45 million square feet and 316 diesel generators, of which 20 would operate at a time.
A new electrical substation is needed, which would add 200 MW to the existing capacity. A power purchase agreement is yet to be established. Concerns have been raised by residents and organizations, including the League of Women Voters and MUSH. County legislators plan to vote on a resolution on June 1 to ensure local oversight of data center projects.
