Masungi Georeserve Foundation Opposes Rizal Wind Energy Project Due to Environmental Concerns
The Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) is opposing the Rizal Wind Energy Corporation's proposed 603-megawatt wind farm due to concerns over its potential impact on the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape and local water resources. Despite the project's renewable energy intentions, MGFI argues it threatens conservation areas, leading them to petition for a cease-and-desist order, which was denied by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The foundation contends that the project's location is too close to protected sites, including the Masungi Georeserve.

The Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) is leading opposition against Rizal Wind Energy Corporation's (RWEC) proposed 603-megawatt wind farm, citing potential threats to the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape.
Despite the project's renewable energy focus, MGFI argues it could harm local water resources and conservation areas. In 2024, MGFI petitioned for a cease-and-desist order, which was rejected by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in July 2025, stating no ongoing construction existed.
MGFI claims the project's coordinates are too close to protected areas, including the Masungi Georeserve and a nearby reforestation site. The foundation's contract with DENR for the georeserve area was canceled in March 2025. Other wind projects in Rizal, such as the completed 54MW Pililia Wind Farm, have not faced similar opposition.
