Masvingo Province is set for socio-economic transformation through significant projects aimed at achieving upper-middle-income status by 2030. Key investments in mineral beneficiation, agro-industrial manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure are reshaping the economy traditionally reliant on agriculture, tourism, and mining.
A notable project is the US$500 million lithium sulphate plant by Sinomine Resource Group at Bikita Minerals, essential for Zimbabwe's strategy to ban raw lithium exports. Bikita has also begun producing pollucite, the first in Africa, valued at up to US$3,000 per tonne.
Additionally, the Zimbabwe Zhongxin Chrome Smelting Company has launched a US$70 million processing plant in Mashava, creating over 230 jobs. Rutenga Growth Point is establishing an industrial park for paprika and sesame processing, enhancing local farmer incomes. Moreover, a US$14.6 million mini-hydro power plant is operational at Lake Mutirikwi, while the ongoing dualisation of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge highway improves regional connectivity.
