Matanuska-Susitna Borough Mayor Vetoes Data Center Development Resolution
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Mayor Edna DeVries vetoed a resolution to assist Terra Energy Center Corp. in developing a data center on borough land. The resolution, sponsored by Assembly members Ron Bernier and Dmitri Fonov, aimed to partner with Terra for marketing the facility over two years.
The Assembly must vote to override the veto to proceed. DeVries cited risks and environmental concerns related to data centers as reasons for the veto. Terra Energy holds a temporary permit for land near Port MacKenzie and plans to connect power infrastructure to a coal plant project. The resolution follows an official Request for Interest from the borough to attract high-tech developments.
