Material Hybrid Manufacturing Secures $7.1M Seed Funding for 3D Printed Battery Technology

DEFENSEENERGY STORAGE

Material Hybrid Manufacturing Inc. has raised $7.1 million in seed funding, co-led by Outlander VC and Harpoon Ventures, to develop its proprietary HYBRID3D technology for 3D printing high-performance energy storage systems. Founded in 2023, the company claims its batteries can utilize up to 90% of interior volume through advanced additive and semiconductor manufacturing techniques.

Material has secured a $1.25 million project with the US Air Force via a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award, collaborating with PDW and other defense developers to integrate conformal batteries into Class I unmanned aerial systems. The technology is expected to enhance pack-level energy densities by over 50% and reduce module weight by more than 22%. Material is also exploring applications in consumer electronics, mobility, robotics, and wearables.
