Matrix Renewables and EDF Partner on 500MW Battery Storage Project in Scotland
Matrix Renewables has partnered with EDF to construct a 500MW/1GWh battery energy storage project in Eccles, Scotland, set to begin operations in summer 2027. This initiative supports the UK's Clean Power 2035 and Net Zero 2050 targets, enhancing grid resilience and facilitating renewable energy integration.

Matrix Renewables and EDF have entered a long-term agreement for the development of a 500MW/1GWh battery energy storage system at Eccles, Scotland, scheduled for commercial operations in summer 2027. The facility will optimize energy storage and support electricity flows between Scotland and England, contributing to grid stability and enabling increased renewable energy integration.
EDF will manage the asset's commercial optimization using its Powershift platform, which enhances value across UK energy markets. This project is part of Matrix's aim to develop over 3GW of battery storage capacity across the UK in the coming years, marking a significant step toward the nation’s energy transition goals.
