Mejillones Ammonia Energy Secures Approval for $2.5B Green Ammonia Project in Chile
Mejillones Ammonia Energy has secured approval for its $2.5 billion Volta Project, marking the first industrial-scale green ammonia initiative to complete Chile's environmental permitting process. Set to produce 620,000 tons annually in two phases, the project will commence commercial operations in 2029 and will utilize 100% of Mejillones' wastewater alongside water from existing desalination facilities.

Mejillones Ammonia Energy has received approval for its $2.5 billion Volta Project, the first industrial-scale green ammonia project to complete Chile’s environmental permitting process. The project will produce 620,000 tons per year in Mejillones, with two phases of 300,000 tons each, starting commercial production in 2029. It will reuse 100% of Mejillones’ wastewater and source additional water from existing desalination facilities.
