Melexis Partners with BYD for Direct Chip Supply in EVs
Melexis has entered a Master Purchase Agreement with BYD, establishing direct supply of semiconductor components for electric vehicles. This agreement enhances BYD's procurement strategy and reflects the importance of sensor ICs in modern EV manufacturing amid ongoing semiconductor supply chain challenges.

On August 25, 2023, Melexis signed a Master Purchase Agreement with BYD, becoming a direct supplier of semiconductor components, specifically sensor ICs. This direct supply model allows BYD to specify chip types and negotiate pricing, enhancing visibility and control over production amidst semiconductor shortages.
Melexis's chips, such as the MLX90510 resolver and MLX90514 sensor, are crucial for EV applications, providing high accuracy and reliability. Despite BYD's extensive vertical integration in manufacturing, the complexity of sensor IC design necessitates sourcing from specialized firms like Melexis. This partnership may influence the European market dynamics, as European chips are integrated into Chinese-built vehicles, potentially stabilizing parts supply for consumers.
