Meta Invests Over $800 Million in Data Center at Sage Mill Industrial Park, Aiken County
Meta is constructing a data center at Sage Mill Industrial Park in the Graniteville/Vaucluse area, investing over $800 million. Aiken County Council has approved economic incentives for Meta's facility and two other data centers.
DC BLOX plans to invest at least $22.65 million initially in its North Augusta data center, with a larger long-term investment expected. Oppidan Investment Co. and its subsidiary are also developing a data center in the Graniteville/Vaucluse area, requiring a minimum investment of $32 million for a 60,000-square-foot facility.
Local responses to data center construction are mixed due to concerns over power and water usage and fewer job opportunities compared to manufacturing. However, Williams, from the Western SC Economic Development Partnership, believes these centers will diversify employment and generate significant county revenues. Meta aims for sustainability, committing to return 100% of its energy use to the grid and to be water positive by 2030.
