Meta Partners with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo for Nuclear Power Supply for AI Data Centers
Meta Platforms has entered agreements to become an anchor customer for nuclear power in the U.S. to support its AI data centers. The deals involve new reactor projects with TerraPower and Oklo, and an expansion of three existing nuclear plants operated by Vistra in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Meta aims for new reactors to be operational by 2030-2032, and its purchase from Vistra will start later this year. The partnership with TerraPower includes funding for two reactors generating up to 690 megawatts, with potential for additional units by 2035.
Oklo's project in Ohio aims for a 1,200-megawatt capacity. The agreements are expected to contribute 6.6 gigawatts of power by 2035, creating thousands of jobs. Meta's initiatives align with its goal to develop advanced AI infrastructure, which necessitates significant electricity supply.
