Meta Platforms Funds Seven Natural Gas Plants for AI Data Center in Louisiana
Meta Platforms Inc. has partnered with Entergy Corp. to finance seven natural gas plants, totaling 5.2 gigawatts, for its Hyperion data center in Louisiana. This project aims to support Meta's energy needs amid rising AI infrastructure demands, with Meta covering the full cost and promising over $2 billion in savings for Entergy customers over 20 years. The deal includes significant investments in transmission lines, battery storage, and nuclear power upgrades, while Meta also plans to fund renewable energy initiatives.

Meta Platforms Inc. has entered an agreement with Entergy Corp. to finance the construction of seven new natural gas plants to supply 5.2 gigawatts of electricity for its Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana. This deal expands on three previously approved plants, bringing the total to ten plants.
Meta will also fund 240 miles of transmission lines and investments in battery storage and nuclear upgrades. The agreement is structured to ensure Meta covers its full cost of service and is expected to generate over $2 billion in customer savings for Entergy over 20 years. Meta’s overall investment in the project is around $10 billion, indicating a significant commitment to fossil fuel energy amid its AI operations.
