Meta to Deploy 6 Gigawatts of AMD GPUs for AI Infrastructure by 2026
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Meta has announced a deal to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs, specifically starting with MI450 models in the second half of 2026, as part of a $60 billion investment in AI infrastructure. This collaboration includes AMD's EPYC CPUs, with Meta designated as the lead customer for the next generation, expected to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
Meta will also acquire up to 160 million shares in AMD, contingent on GPU purchases. Despite its commitment to AMD, Meta intends to source chips from other suppliers, including potential agreements with Google for tensor processing units, indicating a multi-vendor strategy.
