DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Meta is building a 1 GW AI data center in El Paso, Texas, which will utilize 813 gas generators with a total capacity of 366 MW, costing $473 million. The center is projected to start operations in 2027.
During a five-year transition, Meta will cover all associated costs while the site remains offline. The initial phase will require an investment of around $1.5 billion, with potential for five phases adding over 74,000 square meters each. Environmental activists are opposing the project, urging the city to revoke contracts due to Meta's commitments to clean energy while pursuing gas-fired power generation.
