Metals Australia Advances Lac Carheil Graphite Project with Positive Economic Assessment
The Preliminary Economic Assessment for the Lac Carheil project in Quebec reveals a pre-tax NPV of $2.05 billion USD and an IRR of 25.6%. This project aligns with Canada's strategy to enhance its critical minerals supply chain.

Metals Australia Ltd, through its subsidiary Northern Resources Inc., has released findings from a Preliminary Economic Assessment for a High Purity Graphite refinery in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The refinery aims to process 75,000 tonnes of flake graphite concentrate into 51,000 tonnes of high purity products annually, generating a pre-tax NPV-8 of $2.05 billion USD and an internal rate of return of 25.6%.
The project will create 227 jobs, contributing approximately $21.5 million USD in direct wages annually. The refinery's location benefits from existing infrastructure and a supportive business environment. This initiative is set to proceed to a Final Feasibility Study alongside community engagement, supporting Canada's goal of establishing a robust graphite supply chain by 2040.
