Metso to Supply SX-EW Technology for Southern Peru Copper's Tia Maria Project
Metso has signed an agreement with Southern Peru Copper Corporation to supply copper refining technology for the Tia Maria project in Peru. The plant will produce 120,000 tons of high-purity copper cathodes annually, with an order value of EUR 100 million. Metso's delivery includes VSF® technology, environmental systems, and site services, with completion of basic engineering already achieved.

Metso has secured a contract to provide copper Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning (SX-EW) technology to Southern Peru Copper Corporation's Tia Maria project in Cocachacra, Arequipa, Peru. The facility will generate 120,000 tons of high-purity copper cathodes each year, with a contract value of EUR 100 million recorded in the Minerals segment's Q1 2026 order intake.
The delivery encompasses VSF® technology, including Dual Media Filters and a robotic cathode stripping machine, alongside an acid mist capture system for environmental sustainability. Basic engineering is completed, and additional services for site advisory and spare parts are included.
