Mexico Data Centers Reach 279MW Capacity Amid Energy Infrastructure Challenges
Mexico's data center operational capacity hit 279MW in April 2026, driven by strong investment but constrained by energy infrastructure issues. Strategic planning and investment in AI infrastructure are critical for future growth and regional competitiveness.

In April 2026, Mexico's data center industry achieved 279MW of operational capacity, an increase from 115.5MW in 2024 and 235MW in 2025. Despite significant growth, the sector faces challenges due to inadequate electrical infrastructure, regulatory delays, and a lack of generation planning.
To address these issues, approximately US$340 million is being invested in electrical infrastructure in the El Bajio region. The Mexican Association of Data Centers (MEXDC) emphasizes the need for coordinated planning with the Ministry of Energy to ensure stable energy supply. The rise of AI technology further complicates demand, necessitating advanced implementation strategies and sustainable practices to enhance operational stability and align with national digitalization efforts.
