Michels Canada Sues Metro Vancouver for $5.5M Over Infrastructure Project Delays
Michels Canada Co. has filed a lawsuit against Metro Vancouver, claiming $5.5 million in unpaid contract work at the Annacis Island sewage plant. This legal action highlights ongoing financial disputes in regional infrastructure projects amid significant cost overruns.

Michels Canada Co. has initiated a lawsuit against Metro Vancouver's Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District for over $5.5 million, alleging unjust enrichment and project mismanagement related to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project, which began in 2024, encountered delays extending 145 days beyond the agreed completion date due to inaccurate site plans and unforeseen conditions.
Despite an initial agreement for $884,000, Michels claims its costs surged due to these issues and seeks compensation for the full contract price. This lawsuit follows Metro's contentious relationship with Acciona, which has resulted in over $3 billion in cost overruns at another wastewater facility, indicating systemic challenges in managing large-scale infrastructure projects in the region.
