Microchip Technology Opens New Facility in Alabama for Hydrogen Maser Production
Microchip Technology Inc has launched a 15,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, aimed at increasing production of hydrogen masers to meet rising global demand for advanced timing systems. The site will also enhance collaboration with the University of Alabama, focusing on precision timing and synchronization technologies.

Microchip Technology Inc has opened a new 15,000 square foot facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to boost production of its hydrogen masers, particularly the MHM-2020 Active Hydrogen Maser. This expansion aims to address increasing worldwide demand for timing systems used in critical infrastructure, including power grids and satellite communications.
The new site will also manufacture products like the Auxiliary Output Generator (AOG-110) and the 1000C-OCXO ultra-high-performance crystal oscillator. The collaboration with the University of Alabama will involve shared resources and workforce training, potentially enhancing innovation in timing technologies. This investment may mitigate risks associated with timing network disruptions in essential services.
